Lowndes High School held its annual Honors Night last week, and all our St. John School alumni who are seniors received recognition as honor graduates: Gabe Burns, Reanne Harris, Stephanie Mitchell, Carla Ortiz, Sam Peters, and Elyssa Velez. Other honors awarded include: Reanne Harris, the Army Reserve National Guard Scholar Athlete and the U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athletic Award; Elyssa Velez, Outstanding Senior Art Award; Sam Peters, Senior Social Studies Award and the U.S. Naval Academy Appointment; Stephanie Mitchell, the Doug Henderson Memorial Scholarship and the Billy S. Martin and Charles E. Todd II H.U.S.T.L.E. Scholarship; and sophomore Josie Mazurkiewicz, the Spanish 5 Award.

We are so proud of these students, and not at all surprised, because our graduates go on to be extremely successful in high school and college.

UNIFORM EXCHANGE/SALE

The Uniform Exchange/Sale will be held on Thursday, May 17, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the Maturi Room.  Please bring your clean, gently used uniforms to swap.  Torn and tattered uniforms can not be accepted for exchange but can be brought in and put in the free box for the talented seamstresses out there to repurpose.  Gently used uniforms are also available for purchase.  If we do not have the size you need, you will be given credit for your uniforms.  Uniform donations are accepted and appreciated!

Mark Your Calendars!

Also note that on Thursday, May 24, from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. we will have the “End of Year” uniform drop off. Uniforms are dropped off in the pickup line, and credit is given for future use.

Please contact:  Carmina Goss @ 561-9562 or Cindy Miley @ 245-9338 for questions/concerns.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF 2ND GRADERS
FIRST COMMUNION WORKSHOP AND PRACTICE

The First Communion workshop and practice is scheduled for this Thursday, May 17, at 7:00 in the Parish Center.  At least one parent and the First Communicant should attend.  Practice for First Communion is on Saturday, May 19, at 10:00 a.m. in the church.

St. Francis Center, the social outreach arm of St. John Church, is collecting used babies’ and children’s clothing to be distributed at a health fair during the month of June.  They are also accepting children’s books, crayons, and markers.  As you clean out your closets and desks in the next few weeks, please bring any such items that you no longer need to the Parish Center where Sr. Nuala will pick them up.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

NEWS FROM THE WHITE APRON

A flyer from Mrs. Dora Lunsford was sent home last week regarding lunches for the last week of school.  Please remember that all charges are due now, and must be taken care of by May 18.  If you have any questions, please call Dora at 244-1117, 561-7406, or 249-9281.

Ice cream will be sold until May 23

I just realized that this will be my last Rainbow Connection. I have taken the St. John School website from a 4-page boilerplate rendition to the wonderful site it is today. I pulled the floppy that contained those pages, and realized that I have been doing this for a decade. How time flies!

But now it is time for the old, slow, and ugly to give way to the young, fast, and beautiful. I have loved creating this website and all the wonderful / challenging graphics that have appeared in it over the years. I truly love this school and all it stands for, and it has been my distinct pleasure to serve it as your webmaster.

God Bless all of you.

Bruce
